Sotheby’s for Soth

I had a quick look at the Sotheby’s catalogue for the October 17 photography auction. So much to covet. If I had the money, I’d put together a show on women. Click here to see my edit. Total cost = $150,000

Reminds me of a section in the Margulies Collection in Miami. If anyone is around Miami ever I highly recommend a visit or two (its huge). Alec, Maybe he would let you curate a selection out of his collection over Art Basel this year? just a thought at 1:30am….

  2. Alec Soth Says:

Not a bad idea Harlan. The problem is that I don’t want to merely curate, I wan’t to OWN.

great pictures. all striking for different reasons.

  4. Harlan Erskine Says:

Owning is a tricky game-not many photographers have $150,000 in pocket change. Maybe you could justify the purchase as retirement investment? Photography always looks better then 401K statements.

    That Avedon is spectacular.

  6. Harlan Erskine Says:

Yes, I think the Avedon is My favorite. I remember when they showed me that picture in University. I think I remember the Professor telling me that Avedon had been shooting her for sometime and not linking anything. The n at the end of the shoot he popped that frame off when she was tired form the day. If I could only buy one of these I think I would go for that picture. I think the collector with a sense sense of humor would go for big white ass.

  7. Jen Bekman Says:

The Avedon is just incredible. I love the Man Ray too, but don’t know if I’d wanna live with it. They’re all great. Sigh.
(PS, Alec, addicted to your blog, you’re doing a great job.)
