Visiting Memphis (and Cat Power?)

Filed under: Cat,lectures and exhibitions — alecsothblog @ 8:10 am

Dear Cat Power, I enjoyed your Lived in Bars video and noticed the cameo by William Eggleston. If you are looking for another cameo, I’m available. I’ll be in Memphis this Thursday for a lecture at the Memphis College of Art (Oct 27, 7pm). Looking forward to meeting you. Sincerely, Alec

  1. Lol, so great. Cat and William, two of my favorites.

Though Alec, I think you need another 25 years under your belt before you are of the jedi master status that can show up as the illusive éminence grise in sad and gorgeous music videos.

You don’t live in NYC or LA, which is a perfect start.

  2. Did you notice the Eggleston photo gracing the cover of the last Silver Joos record? It made me happy to see the two (W.E. & the Jews) together.

  5. I love this video as well. I posted it on my blog not too long ago. With a nice link to the videos. I am not sure but I don’t think Cat Power lives in Memphis. I think she might have grown up there? but I have heard that she is in New York now and I even read somewhere she was living in Miami but I don’t have any verification.

  6. Ummm.. I will be speaking at SPE conference in Miami next March and if Cat Power is there, I am happy to just drink with her and forget the videos? I’m thinking maybe Harlan can video tape the encounter though?
    Cheers, Wm.

  8. Ms. Power,
As well if you are in the Chicago area and feeling lonely and in need of some hugs please feel free to call upon.
    As well:
    I’m a good listener.
I have excellent taste in a range of beer (esp. the tall ones. ask Alec).
Being an artist I have an acute sensitivity (see #1)
    I like puppies.
and finally I can play the bass and guitar (unlike many other young men you meet i’m sure).

  11. She recorded the album (The Greatest) in Memphis. And she recorded her first album or one of her first albums in Memphis about ten years ago.

  12. This photo of Cat Power by Avedon in the New Yorker kept me dreaming happily for a long time. I put the headphones on and she is whispering and singing in my ear…, and the smell of cigarettes, booze and stale perfume don’t bother me a bit. Cheers!
